Detailed itinerary for 10 days Gorilla and Chimpanzee tracking Rwanda
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Booked accommodations.
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will meet your guide/driver for this safari. After helping you with the luggage and giving you a quick briefing about the safari, you will transfer to your booked accommodation in Kigali, and check in for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Your guide/driver will pick you up after your breakfast and you will begin your scenic drive to Akagera National Park. Upon arrival, you will check into your safari lodge for lunch and later set out for an afternoon game drive where you will encounter wildlife like elephants, Zebras, and impalas. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Morning Game drive and boat cruise on Lake Ihema
Wake up to an early morning game drive after your breakfast to catch the early morning risers as they are more active at this time, looking for food. From your wonderful adventure and lots of sightings of wild games, you will return to the lodge for lunch. Later you will have an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where we are most likely going to encounter lots of aquatic wildlife and birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Visit Nyanza king’s palace and National Museum
After breakfast, you will transfer to Butare to visit different important historical sites. You will visit the ancient King’s palace at Nyanza and National Museum after lunch. And you will spend an entertaining evening with the women’s drumming group. Drive to Nyungwe and check into your booked safari lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Travel to Nyungwe forest for Chimpanzee tracking
After breakfast, you will be briefed shortly about the Chimpanzee tracking activity in Nyungwe Forest National Park before you get into it. After tracking the man’s closest relative, you will return to the lodge for lunch and later set out for a visit to the tea plantation to learn how tea is grown in Rwanda. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Transfer to Kibuye and Lake Kivu
Transfer to Kibuye after breakfast, enjoying the beautiful scenery on your way there. Take lots of pictures and visit the Bisesero genocide memorial. After lunch, you will visit Kibuye church and Nyange school genocide memorial boat ride to Amahoro Island, the peaceful island. Dinner and overnight in Kibuye.
Day 7: Visit Gisenyi then transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, set out to Gisenyi to the fishing village, view hot springs, visit DRC – Rwanda border (Gisenyi town) and after lunch at Lake Kivu, you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park and check into your booked safari lodge upon arrival.
Day 8: Mountain Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Drive to Kinigi headquarters for a short briefing after breakfast that will usher you into the deep of volcanoes to search for the gentle giants. Return from the adventurous Gorilla trekking to hiking to Dian Fossey’s research center and learn about this prominent figure in the history of Gorilla conservation. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Rwanda Community Experience
After breakfast, you will set out for a community walk that will expose you to Rwandan traditions and cultures. You will get involved in craft making with the locals; you will get to see how baskets are weaved and so much more. Another interesting activity that you will get involved in is beer production using sorghum and bananas. Transfer to Kigali for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Travel back to Kigali and Departure
After breakfast and checking out of your safari lodge, you will set out for a city tour of important historic sites as well as craft markets to buy different souvenirs to take back home for family and friends.
