Detailed Itinerary for 7-days Uganda Birding Safari
Day 1: Transfer from Airport to booked accommodation in Entebbe / Kampala
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by your guide/driver who will transport you to your booked hotel in Kampala or Entebbe so you can get some rest from your long flight and be ready to get into your activities the next day.
Day 2: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After your breakfast, depart from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park. On the way, stop by the Ugandan equator to take photos and buy some souvenirs from the craft shops in this area. You will have another stop for lunch before continuing nonstop with your journey to Queen Elizabeth through the ishasha sector to see the tree-climbing lions. Drive to your booked safari lodge and check-in. Later you will set out for an evening game drive, Dinner and overnight at your booked safari lodge, a good chance of seeing lots of wild game and birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Morning Game drive and a boat ride on Kazinga Channel
Early morning game drive after breakfast in a different sector of this park with great opportunities for game viewing and more importantly birding. We will drive through the large open grass plains which are a habitat for huge flocks of Abdims, the amazing Saddle-billed Stork, particularly in the migratory season. Raptors are also common among which are the Brown Snake Eagle, Grey Kestrel and African harrier hawk. After lunch, we will have an exciting boat launch to see lots of hippos and several migratory birds like the Grey-headed Gulls, African skimmers, White-winged Black Terns, Pink, Mourning Dove and the Water Dikkops among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer from Queen Elizabeth to Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, we will drive to Lake Bunyonyi also known as the “Little Switzerland of Africa.” Upon arrival you will check into your booked safari lodge and have lunch and later after lunch, set out for a canoeing adventure on Uganda’s deepest lake with lots of beautiful birds to see while doing this activity. On a clear day, you will catch sight of Mt Muhavura, Uganda’s inactive volcano.
Day 5: Uganda Birding safari on Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, you will take a local canoe to the various small islands to get a chance to enjoy the prolific birdlife. Return for lunch and head to Mukoni for more bird watching. In general, you may see close to 50 diverse bird species on this thrilling walk, among which will be the Swamp Flycatcher, African Hobby, Bronze-chested Sunbirds, Scarlet-chested, the Whitehead Saw-wing and Red-chested Sunbirds, Black Kite and so much more. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Travel back from Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala / Entebbe
After breakfast, check out of your safari lodge to begin your journey back to Kampala with a lunch stop en-route. Drop off at your booked hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Brief city tour and Departure
After your breakfast, you will check out of your hotel to set out for a city tour of Kampala, you will get t tour many prominent historic sites, cultural sites and so much more. After lunch, you will drive directly to the airport for your evening flight back home. Meal plan: H/B
