Detailed itinerary for 5 days gorilla trekking or tracking and Akagera safari Rwanda
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali airport to booked hotel
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by your guide or driver and transferred to your booked hotel so you can refresh before setting out for a tour of Kigali city. You will get to see all the prominent historic sites and visit the craft market, an ideal time for you to purchase a few souvenirs for family and friends back home. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Travel from Kigali to Akagera National Park
After your breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up by your guide or driver to begin the drive to Akagera National Park. Upon your arrival, you will check into your booked safari lodge and have lunch, and later set out for an afternoon game drive where you will encounter a lot of wild game. Dinner and overnight at Akagera.
Day 3: Travel to Ruhengeri and visit local communities.
After breakfast, we depart for Ruhengeri for an experiential tour, visit local communities and get involved in various activities. Learn how to make local beer, acquire ethnobotany skills, make your beautiful handicrafts out of banana leaves, experience traditional dancing music and musical instruments, and learn how to make traditional food. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Buhanga Forest
After your early morning breakfast, you will go to the park headquarters for a briefing about this activity before you get into it. After your one hour of visiting with the Mountain gorillas, you will return to the park headquarters and receive your gorilla trekking certificates. You will then set out to the Buhanga Forest for a Kinigi cultural encounter. Dinner and overnight at Le-bambou lodge or Kinigi guest house.
Day 5: Brief orphanage visit and departure
Today you will have a visit to the orphanage and street kid projects after your breakfast. You will get to interact with the kids and learn how this project is making a difference in the lives of Rwandan kids. Drive to Kigali airport for your return flight back home. Meal plan: half board
